NOLS TV: Wyoming Service Project

In August, National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) alumni teamed up with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and the Student Conservation Association (SCA) to perform trail maintenance in Wyoming’s Wind River Mountain Range.

Their work, documented in this NOLS video, included the construction of puncheons, short bridges used to concentrate trail usage to preserve delicate wetland areas, in the Popo Agie Wilderness Area.

“We really go out of our way to provide a safe and very local impact to get around these wet areas,” Todd Burritt, USFS Forestry Technician, said.

The NOLS alumni, USFS staff and SCA members conducted the entirety of their work with hand tools.

“I think it’s been a great opportunity to be involved with NOLS again,” said John Boatwright, 1984 Wilderness Natural History Course Graduate.
